First International Artichoke Festival, held in Urla, was enjoyable with artichoke meal competitions, organoleptic activities, panels, exhibitions and workshops. Students of Izmir University of Economics Food Engineering Department gave support to the festival with their “artichoke paste” development. The artichoke paste was served in the stand which was located in Malgaca Bazaar. Paste formulation was admired by most of the attenders containing Chef Joseph Viola, best chef of France in 2004. Furthermore, Prof. Dr. K. Nazan Turhan, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zeynep Fırtına Karagonlar and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Burçak Alp contributed to the festival scientifically with their speeches about ‘Artichoke in Every Season’, ‘Artichoke and Health’ and ‘Artichoke in Cultures’ topics, respectively.
